To become an Australian citizen, an application must first be lodged with the Department of Home Affairs. Information can be accesssed here.

The final step in the journey to become an Australian Citizen is to make the Pledge of Commitment at a citizenship ceremony. Citizenship ceremonies are special events and are arranged by Council.  They fulfill requirements under Australian law. They also provide an important opportunity to officially welcome new citizens as full members of the Australian community.

The Regional Council of Goyder conducts conferral ceremonies for approved Australian Citizenship applicants residing in the council area. Ceremonies are arranged when the Council is advised by the Department of Home Affairs about citizenship applications.  Citizenship ceremonie and citizenship certificate enquiries can be adddressed by the Department of Home Affairs via 131 881 or via their website here.

Dress Code

To reflect the importance and dignity of this occasion, we recommend smart casual wear. Traditional dress is welcome.
